Expanding a Visual Identity Through VHS Modulation
The Challenge
The objective was to develop a promotional motion piece and static visual assets for a new Yellow Island Records apparel line. Centered entirely around a new logo designed by AJAM, the project required expanding this specific typographic identity into a cohesive visual campaign. The execution needed to seamlessly match the aesthetic context of a label recognized for its international presence on platforms like Balamii and Internet Public Radio, alongside a catalog featuring artists such as Kessler and Boulderhead.

The Solution
To promote the physical merch, the project translated AJAM's static visual identity into a dynamic digital format. The core solution focused on the meditating wireframe figure featured on the new shirt. By extrapolating the neon green line work used to construct this symbol, a series of rhythmic wireframe patterns based on VHS modulation were developed. This approach integrated the existing merchandise design into a digital motion piece built specifically for the launch campaign.

The Result
The promotional assets drove the launch campaign, translating the label's musical credibility into merchandise sales. By aligning the visual output with the aesthetic standards of the global independent music community, the project solidified Yellow Island's brand presence beyond audio distribution. The campaign established a recognizable visual footprint for their international audience.
The art direction was dictated by the newly established visual identity. Rather than introducing competing graphical elements, the concept expanded the structural logic of AJAM's design. The continuous neon green wave patterns were generated using VHS modulation techniques to mirror the exact wireframe aesthetic of the central meditating figure. This created a visual ecosystem where the apparel's static artwork dictates the surrounding digital environment.
The motion design pipeline focused on the procedural generation of undulating wave patterns to create digital depth and simulate audio frequencies. These animated VHS modulated lines were calibrated to match the stroke weight and color profile of the original static illustrations. This direct integration anchored the transition between the physical shirt design and the promotional video assets, delivering a unified campaign.
